In addition to the word of the week, I also plan to deliver to you each week at least one cool link, website, or online article relevant to topics discussed here. This week’s links relate to Lily’s appointment yesterday and the first can be found here. BabyCenter has a Growth Percentile Calculator, allowing you to enter your child’s values from birth to 36 months and determine which percentile those measurements fall under. Neat!
Upon entering Lily’s stats, here’s what I got …
Birth:
- length = 20″ = 50th to 75th percentile
- weight = 7 lbs 1.4 oz = 25th to 50th percentile
- head circumference = 35 cm (13.8″) = 25th to 50th percentile
1 month:
- weight = 9 lb 5 oz = 10th to 25th percentile
2 months:
- length = 22″ = 5th to 10th percentile
- weight = 11 lb 3 oz = above 95th percentile
- head circumference = 39 cm (15.4″) = 10th to 25th percentile
I have to warn you that these are different than the percentiles Lily’s doctor told me yesterday, so take it for what it’s worth. Though they’re different, they are, however, close.
In searching for a more accurate percentile figure, I stumbled across this site. You could enter the values and print them out each month, if desired. I only wish it were possible to view all values for each month on one chart. At any rate, the percentile values generated at this site are exactly what I was told yesterday, which were:
2 months:
- length = 22″ = 25th to 50th percentile
- weight = 11 lb 3 oz = 50th to 75th percentile
- head circumference = 39 cm (15.4″) = 50th to 75th percentile
There are also downloadable .pdf files available from the CDC here if you’re interested in charting progress on your own.
Have fun!

… but I’m not telling yet!
We survived. I really do think the entire visit was harder on me than it was her. Of course, it’s never easy. Just before our appointment, it was time for Lily to eat. So I fed her most of her bottle in the parking lot, and immediately after, she left me a “present.” So we go into the office, and I change her. Then she cries for more of her bottle. I’m feeding her when we’re called back. Yeah, multi-tasking. Of course, no visit would be complete without her peeing while her diaper is off – rock on.
Anyway, my little Peanut was a grouch the entire time, but was really grouchy when it was time for shots. Thank goodness I didn’t have to hold her; I would have had a meltdown. One in each leg, then something orally. Sweet.
So we made it. It wasn’t fun, but it wasn’t as bad as I thought it would be, either.
After her appointment, we had a lunch date with some of the gals from work – it was a beautiful day to eat Mexican outside, and the only downer was that it took almost 2 hours from the time we got there until we left. Slow!
All in all, it was an okay day. Now I just have to dread her next appointment, 2 months from now. For me, I think they’ll only get harder as she’ll begin to know what’s going on. Eek!
So, what are your guesses on her weight and length??? ;0)

It’s back! Remember the word of the week waaay back when? It’s made its comeback, and this week, it’s rockin’ with two! Recall that there was no real rhyme or reason to the words chosen – it’s usually my husband’s choice, and it could be something used during the week, a random choice, or something totally off the wall. Maybe you’ll use them a little more than before … and maybe I will too! So, without further ado, here are this week’s words of the week!

metropolis: [n: mi-trop-uh-lis]
A large, busy city; a central place.
ingenuity: [n: in-juh-noo-i-tee]
The quality of being resourceful and inventive.

A long, long time ago, I had the pleasure of being introduced to this rockin’ company, Vitalicious and their VitaTops muffins via my daily HungryGirl e-mail. I’ll admit that I was a little hesitant to place my first order. Seriously, how good can 100 calorie, high fiber, vitamin-laced muffins be? My friends, these things ROCK! They are so good, and I’m addicted!
I think I’ve tried just about every variety that Vitalicious makes … yes, every variety minus the Banana Nut and Golden Corn, as I don’t enjoy banana nut bread or corn bread. The VitaBrownies are great, too! And everything is so good for you … 100 calories, low fat, high fiber and protein, and packed with vitamins. The only downfall you might be able to call these out on is the sugar content.
I store them in the freezer, and my favorite time to eat them is after they’ve thawed for just about an hour – they’re still cold, but no longer frozen. I usually eat them for breakfast, but they also make a great, healthy dessert.
It’s been a while since I’ve ordered any, and when I got the latest offer for 10% off an order of the new Chocolate Mint VitaTops, I jumped. Not only am I crazy over VitaTops, but I adore the combination of chocolate and mint. I can’t wait to get them! When I do, I’ll let you know what I think – I just have a feeling I’ll love them!
So, if you haven’t tried VitaTops, VitaMuffins or VitaBrownies, do it now! And if you aren’t signed up for the HungryGirl e-mail, you’re missing out on some GREAT weight loss, health and fitness ideas.
(And no, I’m not receiving any sort of incentive for promoting these two companies – I just honestly love them and want to share them with you!)

Let me start off by saying that I’d love to have pictures of Lily at 2 months to share with you, as well as pictures of her first experience with a teething ring (Which she ADORES, by the way!), but I unfortunately have none. No, I didn’t neglect to take them, but my camera refused to store them, or my computer decided to eat them, or something along those lines. Took great pics all day Saturday, and even checked them out on the camera when I was done. That’s the last I saw of them; when I put the card in my card reader to download them to my computer, they were g-o-n-e! Argh! So … I promise to take more similar pictures and post them soon.
In the meantime, I’m taking guesses as to Lily’s weight and length at 2 months. We’ll announce her stats sometime tomorrow or Wednesday – yippee! Of course, we’ll only know them after her torturous doctor’s appointment tomorrow morning – lots of shots. I don’t know who’s going to have a harder time with it – her or me. I’m already sad and it’s over a day away. Hopefully I don’t have a breakdown in the process … my poor baby! I am looking forward to spending the whole day with her, however!
Oh, and did I mention that she went 7 hours and 45 minutes between feedings on Saturday night? Yeah, it ROCKED! She ate at 8 pm and woke up at 3:45 am. We’ve been trying to keep her awake at night so she sleeps better, and I’m guessing she slept from 10/10:30 or so until she woke up at 3:45. Way to go, Lily!
Have a great Monday!

This girl is getting to be a riot! While we never made it to Baltimore yesterday (Which is actually a good thing – that means A was not admitted and went home, although not uneventfully!), we ran errands and hung out at home. We had been watching Lily gnaw on her fingers and hands all day, and with the chewing came lots of drool. I know it’s not quite time for them yet, but I wanted to see what she’d do with teething rings, so I froze them. Am I ever glad I did; it was hilarious! She couldn’t get enough of it, and got really upset when we took it away, even if it was for a few seconds!
As of this morning, she’s into stuffing blankets into her mouth. This one’s going to require some creative thinking as I don’t want her doing that in her crib when we’re not around!

Lily is 2 months old today! In order to prepare her for her journey to the three month mark, here’s a look at what she’s expected to do over the next 4 weeks or so.
According to What to Expect the First Year, by three months, Lily …
… should be able to:
- on stomach, lift head up 45 degrees
… will probably be able to:
- laugh out loud
- on stomach, lift head up 90 degrees
- squeal in delight
- bring both hands together
- follow an object held about 6 inches above baby’s face and moved 180 degrees – from one side to the other, with baby watching all the way
… may possibly be able to:
- hold head steady when upright
- on stomach, raise chest, supported by arms
- roll over (one way)
- grasp a rattle held to backs or tips of fingers
- pay attention to an object as small as a raisin
… may even be able to:
- bear some weight on legs when held upright
- reach for an object
- keep head level with body when pulled to sitting
- turn in the direction of a voice, particularly mommy’s
- say “ah-goo” or similar vowel-consonant combination
- razz (make a wet razzing sound)
We’ll see how this month goes! As mentioned in her 2 month milestone post, she’s already doing some of the things on this list, so let’s see what else we can cross off on 8/11!
I’ll post pictures tomorrow, most likely. We’re headed to Baltimore today and hope to get some time at the Inner Harbor or out and about in the city, so hopefully we’ll have some good ones! Until then, have a GREAT day!

I have two nephews that I absolutely adore. They’re 10 months apart, and are 100% boys inside and out. They’ve both got awesome personalities – the older of the two, K, is so sweet and really cares about others. He’s also got such an imagination – his stories will really make you laugh! The younger of the two, M, is totally feisty and an absolute comedian. Both train fanatics, they can identify different train models in an instant and without question. They’re sweet, smart, full of energy and can wear an aunt DiDee and uncle Eesh Eesh out FAST!
Today, little M celebrates his 3rd birthday! Hard to believe; it seems like such a short time ago that I got the call on my way to work that Michelle was in labor. The day was a total surprise; M came 6 weeks early, and he truly is a miracle. He overcame some serious struggles and is still such a fighter!
On a recent trip to Pittsburgh, Michelle and I had a conversation with both K & M about what they wanted for their birthdays. I adore their lists, and wish life were so simple for us adults sometimes. Here’s what they asked for …
K’s birthday list – he’ll be 4 in exactly 2 months …
- Big green chapstick
- Big Lightning McQueen chapstick
- Big plastic truck
- Big & little cars
- Root beer
M’s birthday list – he’s 3 today …
- Purple cupcakes
- Purple cake
- Big red chapstick
- Big cars
- Big dump truck
- Big loader
- Root beer
Oh, how I love these boys!!!
So to you, today, happy birthday, M! Aunt DiDee and Uncle Eesh Eesh are sending you our love and hope to see you this weekend and if not, really soon!!! XOXOXO!!!

Lily will reach the two month old milestone on Saturday, 7/11. As I was checking her progress in What to Expect the First Year, I thought I might share with you each month what she’s done and what she’s expected to do in the next month (a different post). So … here’s what is expected for her second month of life and where she stands!
According to What to Expect the First Year, by two months, Lily …
… should be able to:
- smile in response to your smile (Yep, she’s got this one down! So cute!)
- respond to a bell in some way, such as startling, crying, quieting (Okay, I can’t say I’ve used a bell, per se, but she does startle quite well. Hands and arms extend and sometimes freeze in place – too funny!)
… will probably be able to:
- vocalize in ways other than crying (e.g., cooing) (She sure does – we have some serious conversations!)
- on stomach, lift head 45 degrees (Yep …)
… may even be able to:
- hold head steady when upright (Thumbs up here!)
- on stomach, raise chest, supported by arms
- roll over (one way)
- grasp a rattle held to backs or tips of fingers
- pay attention to an object as small as a raisin (but make sure such objects are kept out of baby’s reach)
- reach for an object
- say “Ah-goo” or similar vowel-consonant combination (I’m not really sure if some of her chattering falls into the “ah-goo” category specifically. Seriously, what’s “ah-goo?” I’ll give her a maybe here.)
… may possibly be able to:
- smile spontaneously (Yes … love it!)
- bring both hands together (Sure can …)
- on stomach, lift head 90 degrees
- laugh out loud
- squeal in delight
- follow an object held about 6 inches above the baby’s face and move 180 degrees (from one side to the other), with baby watching all the way
